Students, teachers, school administrators, and civic and community leaders in our core partnership cities have demonstrated that a deep saturation of Y-PLAN into classrooms, schools, districts, and cities yields broad systemic changes: changes that are desperately needed. As schools and cities begin to work together in an ongoing way, Y-PLAN starts to be "baked in," siloes disintegrate, and new possibilities arise in their place.
Examples include partnering to open school playgrounds in the evening, changing city bus routes to connect teens with local community centers and boost transit ridership, or building a pipeline of bright, eager students for civil sector job opportunities. While we have worked with more than 20 cities over the last decade, we are currently going deeper and focusing on cities and regions with the readiness and resources to partner with us.
